Benefits of Floating

Balance Between Work & Relaxation

Mind, Body & Soul

Float therapy has been around for several decades, and while many benefits of floating are anecdotal (reported by regular floaters), there is years of scientific research and publishing’s documenting the many wide-ranging benefits of floating.  At Float Away Ningaloo, we believe a balance between work and relaxation is essential for our health, and that floating is a positive step to achieving this balance. Floating is a holistic approach that – on its own, or in conjunction with other therapies such as massage, meditation etc. can produce phenomenal results in individuals.  The ultra-deep relaxation of floating “resets” the body’s hormonal and metabolic balance, strengthening resistance to and accelerating recovery from the effects of stress, illness, injury or strenuous exercise. Broadly speaking, the benefits you could expect are:
  • Deep relaxation
  • Better Sleep
  • A reduction in pain and tension
  • Decreases cortisol levels and adrenaline which reduces stress
  • Lowered blood pressure levels
  • Energise and revitalise
  • Eliminates fatigue and jet lag
  • Improved athletic performance
  • Reduced inflammation
  • More creativity and originality
  • Better learning and cognitive performance

Floating induces a meditative-like state (including the theta brainwaves associated with meditation and dreaming), so you naturally feel calmer and less stressed. If you regularly meditate already, and then float, you will probably experience an enhanced meditative state. Floating may help to reduce stress and anxiety, blood pressure and decrease feelings of depression and fatigue. The magnesium can improve your skin health, and other reported benefits of floating include mindfulness, increased vitality and digestion, and an increase in overall feelings of peace and calm.

The magnesium sulphate is the same Epsom salts people have been using in their baths for years (only in much higher concentrations). Magnesium is essential for normal muscle function, and by immersing yourself in it, you absorb magnesium directly through your skin. This can result in muscle repair and regeneration after accident, injury or a big workout. Healthy muscles mean less muscular fatigue, better blood flow and increased nutrient supply, and better physical performances. Healthy muscles also mean reduced cramping and better, more restful sleep.

The weightless environment of the floatation tank enables muscles and joints to relax, increasing blood flow and helping to accelerate repair of muscle tissues. This is especially beneficial for those with injuries or chronic pain – it also helps with spinal misalignment issues.  Floating has also been associated with reduced symptoms for people suffering from arthritis, fibromyalgia, MS and migraines.

The reduction of gravity and onset of the “relaxation response” work to decrease muscular tension, which helps increase circulation and allows the body to flush waste and deliver nutrient rich blood throughout. Epsom salt is absorbed through the skin and supplies the body with an optimal amount of magnesium to aid in healing and repair.

When you float, you have full, uninterrupted access to the complete power of your mind. Unlimited potential! You can explore creative visualisation to help heal or solve problems, or simply to expand your mind. Floating goes hand in hand with increased mindfulness.
